Anybody need an accountant?

So over the weekend I was in San Francisco, where I am to be found at least once a month. We park our car in pretty much the same spot on Van Ness where we always park, meet up with some people, walk a bit, drop off some gear in the car, have an early dinner, and go back to the car (well before dark).

Where we find one of the windows smashed and a lot of bags missing.

Now, on one level I was freaking out about all the expensive things that had been in those bags, but on another and entirely more freak-outable level, my sketchbooks were in that bag- more than a year's worth of work and documentation. The husband had similarly irreplaceable things in his.

But wait...

It turned out that the accountant working in the building this had happened in front of had seen the whole thing, ran out of his office and chased the guy for two blocks, caught him, recovered all of our gear (and ironically, liberated a bag belonging to the thief in the process...hope his ID was in there), and returned to his office, after leaving us a nice note to let us know where to find him.

If you're around SF and you need the kind of accountant who wears running shoes and fights crime, have I got the guy for you!

via a random tweet from a friend. That's awesome! Glad to know there are crime-fighting, sneaker wearing accountants out there. Glad you got your stuff, sorry about the original breakin.

Wow! Shall we knit him hats and gloves? He sounds worthy!

Yeah, this guy was cool. He seemed like a nice fellow in person too. We are going to write him a letter and let him know how much we appreciate what he did... but if folks are inclined to knit him goodies... he totally deserves it.
